27 November, Bukit Beruang Temple, Melaka - Free mammogram screening (Education & Awareness Programme)

NCSM Melaka was at the Bukit Beruang Temple to help women signed up for free mammograms.  Clinical breast examinations and talk on breast cancer respectively by doctors Dr Rekha, Dr Subhathra Devi and Dr Rathidevi Thanaseelan from Hospital Melaka.

Our survivor, Mdm Vijayalakshimy also helped to explain the toll of breast cancer and survivorship.

22 November, Manipal Medical College, Melaka -Education Campaign (Education & Awareness Programme)

We collaborated with Melaka-Manipal Medical College Final and Fourth Year students on cancer survivorship by a parent of a child with cancer and cancer survivor.  Opportunities to learn about breast examination were conducted by Dr Narmatha Kamalananthan and Dr Theva Sehnu Segaran from Hospital Melaka SOPD Department.

21 November, University Tunku Abdul Rahman, Sungai Long Campus - "Cut for Hope 2.0" (Education & Awareness Programme)


University Tunku Abdul Rahman (Sungai Long campus) organised a charity hair-cut campaign called “Cut for Hope 2.0” of which some of the proceeds raised will be donated to us. One of our teen survivors, Aaleyxia Termizi shared her journey with cancer to the students who attended. We also set up our education and awareness both for the students to understand further about cancer.

20 November, KL Broga Evergreen Lions Club - Health screening day (Education & Awareness Programme)

This is our 3rd year collaboration with The Lions Club of Petaling Jaya Mutiara, who organised their Annual Health Day on 20 November 2016 at Broga communities. We were requested to set up a cancer awareness booth during the program. About 150 participants from the nearby villagers who supported the event. We encouraged the public on early screening and prevention of cancers and we also conducted the Carbon Monoxide (CO) Test for the smokers.

16 November, AXA AFFIN customer value add program - Cancer awareness & protection (Education & Awareness Programme)

AXA AFFIN Life organised a free talk on cancer awareness and protection to companies as part of their awareness programme. We were invited to give a talk at Boustead Holdings on early screening, prevention and living healthy.

15 & 16 November, Hospital Melaka Otolaryngology - AUO Sunpower-NCSM Cancer Awareness, Screening and Blood Donation Drive Campaign (Education & Awareness Programme)

An AUO Sunpower-NCSM Cancer Awareness, Screening and Blood Donation Drive saw 141 men and women screened for nasopharyngeal cancer during the first day by Hospital Melaka Otolaryngology and 106 blood donors processed by Blood Bank Melaka.  Other screening involved Alor Gajah Clinic which conducted pap smear and breast examinations as well as Durian Tunggal Clinic for Stop Smoking clinic.

We had volunteers such as Dr Farra Ain to explain breast self examination and Dr Shameer Abdul Rahman, to explain colorectal cancer. We also had Madam Kamala to explain childhood cancer support at our Society while Madam Sujatha Menon, a lymphoma cancer survivor and also a volunteer to share her survivorship journey with staff of AUO Sunpower.

October 2016

29 October, One City, Subang Jaya - 13th Malaysia National Congress (Education & Awareness Programme)

In conjunction with the 13th Malaysia National Congress, NCSM was invited to setup cancer awareness booth at One City, Subang Jaya on 29th October 2016 from 1pm to 6pm. During the day-packed business networking event, the delegates and participants of the congress had the opportunity to be educated about cancers in general while donating to the society by purchasing the merchandise during the charity sale.  They truly were appreciative of the Chinese ink painting demo by our cancer survivors. About 200 participants visited our booth, including PM International Malaysia staff and event crew.

NCSM General Manager, Mr Sudhaharan Nair was also invited to attend the mock cheque presentation during the conference. The mock cheque was presented by Mr Paul Yung, CEO of PM International Malaysia. Prior to this ceremony, Fitline Malaysia did their fundraising for NCSM through the sale of their pink T-shirts.

24 - 27 October, Fairview International School- Breast cancer awareness week (Education & Awareness Programme)

In conjunction with Pink October, Fairview International School organised Breast Cancer Awareness Week from 24th to 27th October 2016. NCSM Medical Doctor, Dr Dalilah Kamaruddin was invited to conduct talks to both male and female students. The sessions, held separately on October 24, 2016. A total of 119 girls attended the first session and were enlightened on the importance of prevention and early detection of cancer and how to conduct breast self-examination. The second session, attended by 134 boys was about on male breast and testicular cancers.  Students were taught about testicular self-examination and made to understand that males are also prone to have breast cancer.

As part of their CSR initiatives, throughout the week FIS helped to sell NCSM merchandise and donations raised would be channelled to NCSM.

12 - 21 October, Alice Smith International School- Breast cancer awareness week (Education & Awareness Programme)

On the 17th to the 21st October 2016, Klass Community, the student body from the Alice Smith International School, Seri Kembangan organised their Breast Cancer Awareness Week. NCSM was invited to be part of this event. We setup cancer awareness booth on 21st October 2016 from 12pm to 2pm, showcasing info on breast cancer, 10 early signs of cancer, and other cancers. Our Education Executive, Ms Maryam Zahidah conducted an awareness talk on breast cancer entitled “Be Breast Aware”. Ms Adeline Joseph, Head of Resource and Wellness Centre, a cancer survivor herself, was also present to conduct a sharing session on cancer survivorship. The students did a bake sale and helped us sell our merchandise to raise funds for donations. We also donated some booklets on breast cancer to the school library as reference materials.

19 October, Inti International University - Breast cancer awareness week (Education & Awareness Programme)

In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, INTI Mass Communication Club and VYBES – INTI campus radio invited NCSM to setup a cancer awareness booth during their “C for Care” Cancer Awareness Day at their campus on 19th October 2016 from 1pm to 4pm. The day, aimed to increase awareness on breast cancer, attracted about 100 students to our booth.

NCSM was also selected to be the beneficiary for their upcoming INTI Charity Concert to be held at the end of the year 2016.

18 October, Metrojaya Malaysia - I Love Pink Campaigns (Education & Awareness Programme)

In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2016, Metrojaya Malaysia organised “I Love Pink Days Campaign” and pledged RM3,000 for pap smear screening to raise awareness on breast cancer and cancers in general to their customers and members at their store in Mid Valley. The campaign was held from 8th to 16th October 2016. NCSM was invited to set-up a cancer awareness booth on 15th October 2016 from 11am to 5pm. Vouchers for 75 pap smear screening were given out to their customers during the day.


October, KL Sogo - Peak & Ultron collaboration (Education & Awareness Programme)

Peak Fitness, an innovative fitness centre located in KL Sogo, raised Breast Cancer Awareness among their female members as well as members of the public during the month of October 2016. NCSM was invited to setup a display and information booth at their Peak Fitness Centre for the entire month.

15 & 16 October, Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS) - Volunteer Weekend at Putrajaya (Education & Awareness Programme)

On the 15th and 16th of October, NCSM’s Education team conducted a breast cancer awareness and smoking cessation booth for “Volunteer Weekend at Putrajaya” organised by Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS). The event was open to the public and attracted around 2,000 visitors consisting of university students and residents of Putrajaya. The visitors to NCSM’s booth were taught how to conduct the self-breast examination, given lifestyle tips to prevent breast cancer and received advice from our smoking cessation specialist. We successfully recruited 11 student volunteers as a result of the event.

29 September, UCSI, Kuala Lumpur- “Light The Life” Cancer Awareness Campaign (Education & Awareness Programme)

UCSI University students organised a fundraising and cancer awareness campaign with a few other cancer NGOs  focusing on cancer awareness and early detection. Our Youth Ambassador, Ms Choo Mei Sze was also invited to share her journey as a cancer survivor to the audience. NCSM was invited to set up a cancer awareness booth during the program.

24 September, The Summit, USJ - "Health Matters-Stay Healthy” (Education & Awareness Programme)

Subang Jay Assembly of God once again hosted a community health awareness programme for the residents of Subang Jaya, USJ and Sunway.  Their theme for this year is “Health Matters-Stay Healthy”.  NCSM was invited to set up a cancer education booth to educate the public on male and female cancer as well as on how to quit smoking in order to prevent lung cancer.  Tests offered by NCSM included Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) and Carbon Monoxide Breath Analyzer (CO) test. The event was officiated by YB Hannah Teoh, ADUN Subang Jaya.


10 September, Perdana University - “Walk & Roll” a thon 2016 (Education & Awareness Programme)

NCSM held a cancer awareness booth at “Walk & Roll” a thon 2016, a fundraising event organised by the Student Representative Council, Perdana University in MAEPS, Serdang.

3 & 4 September, Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya - Guardian Walkathon 2016 (Education & Awareness Programme)

We held a cancer awareness booth during Guardian Malaysia’s Walkathon 2016 at Paradigm Mall in Petaling Jaya to highlight our services and promote awareness about cancer and taught the attendees on how to do self-breast examination.

28 July, Tangs HQ Petaling Jaya - "Tangs Give Back Campaign" (Education & Awareness Programme)


In conjunction with Tangs Give Back Campaign, NCSM We were invited to set up a cancer awareness booth and conduct health talk session by our Head of Cancer & Health Screening Clinic, Dr Dalilah Kamaruddin with our in-house dietitian, Ms Chan Wan Thung to the staff at Tangs in conjunction with their “Give Back” Campaign.

26 June, SMK Bandar Sunway - Health Screening Medical Camp (Education & Awareness Programme)

Booth Rotary Sunway (2)Over a hundred ladies from underprivileged communities received a free clinical breast check-up from us on 26 June. The health event and Medical Camp, co-organised by the Malaysian Medical Association of Selangor, Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society and NCSM, was held in Desa Mentari and Bandar Sunway. The team was most happy to serve the needs of this community.

18 June, St Francis Xavier Church - Awareness Talk (Education & Awareness Programme)

Talk St Francis XavierMembers at St Francis Xavier’s Church learned about the prevention, early detection as well as signs and symptoms of breast and cervical cancer on 18 June. Following the talk, a cancer survivor shared her journey in battling breast cancer, emphasising on not giving up. The audience gave her a huge round of applause and told us that it was inspiring.

1 - 5 June, Wisma MCA - Blossom Arts Festival 2016 (Education & Awareness Programme)


Survivors from our Chinese Ink Painting class showed off their work and talents at the Bossom Arts Festival on 1 to 5 June. Held at Wisma MCA, the festival was organised by Malaysian Chinese Culture and Arts Consultative Council (MCCACC) with the support of the Tourism and Culture Ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall. Apart from providing painting demonstrations, we also carried out a  charity sale, and increased the booth visitors’ awareness of cancer.

All of the art pieces displayed at the booth were painted at our weekly art therapy classes under the guidance of Datin Alice Chai.

31 May - 2 June, Genting Highlands- Employee Health Campaign 2016 (Education & Awareness Programme)

12Five hundred employees at Genting Highlands received advice on decreasing their risk of cancer (or how to quit smoking) from our team on 31 May to 2 June. We applaud  Genting Malaysia Berhad for holding the  Health Campaign 2016 and for encouraging their employees to increase their cancer awareness!

24 May, Roche Sunway - "Cancer Awareness & Debunking Myths of Cancer" Talk (Education & Awareness Programme)


Dr Dalilah Kamaruddin, Head of NCSM’s Cancer and Health Screening Clinic was invited by Roche Malaysia to conduct a talk on “Cancer Awareness & Debunking Myths of Cancer”. The event was organised by Swiss Malaysian Council Association (SMCA). It was attended by a total of 35 members of SMCA whom are the CEOs, CFOs and GMs of Swiss companies based in Malaysia. There were presentations from Mr Xavier Payrar of Nestle Infant Nutrition and Mr Kenny Goh, Roche Malaysia. The participants enjoyed the talk and found it informative.

28 May, Rotary Club Sentul - Annual Medical Camp (Education & Awareness Programme)


The Rotary Club of Greater Kuala Lumpur and the Rotary Club of Sentul organised their Annual Medical Camp on 28th May 2016 at SMK Convent Sentul and requested NCSM to set up a cancer awareness booth during the program. The event was officiated by YB Chua Tian Chang, the Member of Parliament for the Batu constituency. About 200 participants supported the event. We educated the public on the danger of cancers, conducted Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) to the ladies who attended and Carbon Monoxide (CO) Test for smokers. Funds raised will be donated to NCSM.

26 April, Kraftangan Malaysia - Free Mammogram Screening (Education & Awareness Programme)


23 ladies from Kraftangan Malaysia came to do their mammogram at our clinic recently. While they were here, we took them around for a tour at our centres. They were especially excited to visit the kids in our Children’s Home of Hope.   They were touched by what they saw and experienced and   praised NCSM for doing so much for the community.

14 April, St John’s International School & Rotary Club of Metro KL (Fundraising Programme)


St John’s International School together with Rotary Club of Metro KL raised funds for Children’s Home of Hope.  Representatives from both the school and Rotary Club visited our Centre and presented us with a cheque.

We thank all our donors for their kind contribution both in kind and in cash.  It is your generosity that has kept us going and enable us to fulfil our commitment to fight cancer.

14 April, Mammogram Screening for Vietnamese Ladies (Education & Awareness Programme)


About 20 Vietnamese ladies who were visiting Malaysia used the opportunity to have their mammograms done at our Cancer & Health Screening Clinic.  We also briefed them about NCSM and our other services.

12 - 13 April, STAR Media Group HR Open Day (Education & Awareness Programme)


Star Media Group organised their annual event “HR Open Day (HR4U) 2016″ on 12 & 13 April 2016. They have successfully carried out this event for five consecutive years since it was first initiated in 2012. This time around, NCSM was invited to be one of the exhibitors. We set up our cancer awareness booth focusing on male cancers & quit smoking campaign. Our Smoking Cessation Specialist, Sr Swinder Jit and Ms Chan Wan Thung, our dietician conducted Carbon Monoxide (CO) Test for smokers. The response from the staff especially the male staff was very encouraging.  The event was officiated by YBhg Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Group Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Star Media Group Berhad who visited our booth.

11 April, Charity Fund Run (Fundraising Programme)


Takasima Health Mart Sdn Bhd ran a Campaign, ‘Charity Fund Run’ in aid of 3 NGOs, including NCSM. The collaboration with NCSM was to create a better understanding of cancer and how it is preventable and treatable if detected early.

5 April, Just Heavenly (Fundraising Programme)


Just Heavenly is embarking on a fund raising campaign for NCSM.  Our donation boxes are placed at their cafè in Bangsar Shopping Centre. Diners and customers are encouraged to make a donation to NCSM to support our campaign.  At the end of the campaign, Just Heavenly will top up with a substantial donation as well.  The campaign ends in September 2016.

March 2016

31 March, Kelab Majlis Sukan Negara "Kempen Kesedaran Kanser 2016" (Education & Awareness Programme)


On 31 March 2016, Kelab Majlis Sukan Negara organised Kempen Kesedaran Kanser for their staff. NCSM was invited to set up a cancer education booth to educate the staff on male & female cancers as well as to quit smoking to prevent lung cancer.  We conducted Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) for the ladies who attended. A talk on the Dangers of Smoking was also conducted by our Smoking Cessation Specialist Sr Swinder Jit.  Following this event, 13 of their female staff  who were above 40 came to our Cancer & Health Screening Clinic to do their mammogram.

26 March, Beading For Seniors (Pink Unity Programme)


10 Pink Unity members attended a beading class. The facilitator for this class.  Cik Mariana Hussein, taught the survivors how to make Swarovski necklace using the wire-loop method.  The design is called “Unity”, a very apt design for the group.


19 March, Briskwalk (Pink Unity Programme)


Pink Unity (PU), our Women Cancer Survivors’ Support Group held their  monthly briskwalk at Lake Gardens. 20 PU members turned up for the walk.


15 March, Craft Complex Kuala Lumpur (Fundraising Programme)


On March 15 2016, Lembaga Kraftangan Malaysia presented a donation to NCSM. Karyaneka had raised the funds through the sale of their merchandise, in conjunction with the Chinese Ink Painting Art Showcase, as part of their CSR activity. The cheque presentation was attended by Director of Craft Complex Kuala Lumpur, En Abdul Manan Ismail & Pn Norizmah Mustaffa, Head of Retails and Operations, Syarikat Pemasaran Karyaneka Sdn Bhd while NCSM was represented by our General Manager, Mr Sudhaharan Nair.


2 March, INTI VYBES Charity Project (Education & Awareness Programme)


Ms Indira Menon, Marketing Director of NCSM, was invited for the Inti Campus Radio interview at INTI International University, Nilai in conjunction with their INTI VYBES Charity Project. The interview touched on the importance of cancer awareness and health screening as well as the dangers of smoking among youths.

February - March, MAA Takaful Talk (Education & Awareness Programme)


In conjunction with FEBulous Pink Month, MAA Takaful had invited NCSM to give a series of talk in their 5 branches in Seremban, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Klang and Sungai Petani. The talk was given by our doctor and Education Executive. They spoke on common cancers affecting Malaysian women, reducing the risk of getting cancer and available screenings. They were also taught how to conduct self-breast examination (SBE). The talk was attended mainly by their agents and staff.

February 2016

24 February, Wednesday (Pink Unity Programme)

PU5634538 members attended Pink Unity’s (PU) 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM). During the AGM, elections were conducted to elect the new Executive Committee members for 2016-2017.

The Executive Committee Members for 2016 – 2017 are Lena Abdullah (President), Lucianna Jambari (Vice President), Amnah Salleh (Secretary), Betty Gomes (Treasurer) and Susie Rajoo, Saliza Khalid, Marianna Zaine and Tengku Salmah (Committee Members).

After the AGM, Pink Unity celebrated Chinese New Year with a lunch gathering of PU Members. The celebration kicked off with a lion dance followed by Chinese songs and dance performances by several of the PU members.

24 February, Tuesday (Education & Awareness Programme)


Encorp Berhad staff were enlightened by the talk given by Dr Dalilah Kamaruddin, our Head of Cancer and Health Screening Clinic, who spoke on the topic, “What You Need to Know about Cancer”. We also set up a booth to create better awareness on cancers among their staff. About 50 employees participated in the event. We also distributed free 3 D mammogram vouchers to the female staff above 40 years.

18 February, Tuesday (Fundraising Programme)


BINGO Generation Young (BGY), an e-commerce platform that sells health-care product, fundraised RM 6,000 for National Cancer Society Malaysia. During the 3 months campaign period (which ended in December 2015), for each box of their product called “Reserve” sold to the public, BGY donated RM100 to NCSM. Ms. Sennie Glam and Mr Sebastian Tan from BGY presented the donation cheque to our Marketing Director, Ms Indira Menon on 18 February

15 February. Monday (Education & Awareness Programme)


As part of their community medicine practical training programme, forty three medical students from Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) visited NCSM to learn about cancer as well as the history, mission and programmes of NCSM. The group were impressed with the activities and programmes that we carry out, and many of the students signed up as volunteers afterwards.

16 January. Saturday (Education & Awareness Programme)


NCSM gave a talk to increase awareness of cancer to residents of Taman Tenaga, Kajang at Surau As-Syakirin. The audience showed great interest on the topic and there were many enquiries on ways to prevent cancer.

13 January, Wednesday (Pink Unity Programme)


23 Help Desk volunteers and 7 observers attended the first Help Desk meeting for 2016. After the meeting, participants who attended the 18th Reach to Recovery International Breast Cancer Support Conference Beijing, China that was held from 6 to 9 September 2015 (RRI 2015) shared some of the topics that were presented during the conference, which included sexuality after breast cancer, relapse, doctor-patient communication and creating awareness with limited resources.

10 January, Sunday (Outreach Programme)


NCSM was invited by the Adun of Ijok to participate in their 2nd Hari Karnival Kesihatan at Dewan SJKC Yuk Chih, Bestari Jaya, Ijok. We gave a talk on cancer to the community and also conducted Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) on more than 30 ladies. The event was officiated by Y.Bhg. Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail.


9 January, Sunday (Outreach Programme)


NCSM was invited by the National of the Woman’s Section of Medical Bureau of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) to conduct a health screening and cancer awareness programme to the women in Taman Puchong Permai on 9th January. The program was titled “Health at Your Doorstep”. The women were given Clinical Breast Examinations (CBE) and basic health screening. The event was officiated by the MIC Youth & Women’s Leader, Mrs Mohana Muniandy.
